Domaine du Carpoulat -
"Duflo's Treasure"
Description: Domaine Carpoulat is a sprawling vineyard in the Ténarèze region that was purchased by Yves Duflo, a former banana plantation manager from the Caribbean, in the 1970s. Shortly after, Yves hired Jean-Jacques Bordes as the cellar master. Jean-Jacques remained the cellar master after Yves’ passing and until 2024 when he retired and passed the torch to his son, Florient. The incredible knowledge and passion from the Bordes family shines through in their Armagnac after decades of work.
While he owned the Domaine, Yves Duflo cherished his older Armagnac barrels so much that he often kept them rather than sell to eager buyers. This 50-year-old barrel was the oldest remaining in the cellar and the last from this first production vintage. We are very grateful Yves Duflo held his treasures back to be discovered and shared today.
Tasting Notes: Nose: The nose is very lively for 50 years in a cask, but its age is still unmistakable. Tropical fruit medley, followed by honey, and a hint of orange marmalade. The scent of an old Armagnac cellar with old wood and evaporated spirit comes next. This smells like history.
Palate: Dense tropical fruitcake, honey, cooked pear, passion fruit and an unmistakable backbone of cedar and old leather.
Finish: Long and lingering tropical fruit and wood notes that transform into maple syrup.
