Description: Domaine du Carpoulat is a sprawling vineyard in the Ténarèze region that was purchased by Yves Duflo, a former banana plantation manager from the Caribbean, in the 1970s. Shortly after, Yves hired Jean-Jacques Bordes as the cellar master. Jean-Jacques remained the cellar master after Yves’ passing and until 2024 when he retired and passed the torch to his son, Florient. The incredible knowledge and passion from the Bordes family shines through in their Armagnac after decades of work. Discovering Domaine du Carpoulat was not easy. Through a series of very fortunate random events, we landed in their cellar. This barrel was the last we tasted on our visit, and much like our experience discovering the Domaine, it felt like fate to stumble upon this barrel. It is the perfect first release from Domaine du Carpoulat.
Tasting Notes: Nose: A beautiful bouquet of apricot, peach, honey, vanilla, and anise spice. this nose jumps out of the glass and draws new scents every time.
Palate: The palate is rich, lively, and full of fruit. Fruit compote, apricot butter, fig jam, and some sweet caramel.
Finish: The age of this spirit becomes more apparent on the finish, but the oak is very well integrated. Some darker notes of sandalwood and liquorice come into play along with a veriety of stone fruits.
